I knew about Miss Clarity Café even before they were featured by the baker who cooks. You simply cannot miss their loud and candy-colored theme screaming “look at me, I exist!” from miles away. Okay I exaggerate but you get the point.
Anyway, I had not been compelled to visit the girlish cafe until a couple weeks ago. It was really more for convenience, as we were going to catch a play just opposite, at the National library.
The food menu is fail-safe and typical of a café, covering all grounds from sandwiches to pasta to main courses and even a few local delights. My companions chose the chicken baked rice and the chicken ballotine while not too hungry, I simply ordered a cheese sandwich. The food was decent though the chicken baked rice was different - instead of the usual chicken pieces on top of the rice, they used chunky pieces of pre-fried chicken. Baking it further to melt the all-important cheese made the chicken rather dry. Anyway, dessert for that day was lychee icecream but texturally, it was not very smooth and you can see the icicles. The dessert behaved rather like a granita instead.
Having said all that, you could be surprised I went back again just yesterday. This time, it was by sheer coincidence. The place my friend and I had in mind was closed for renovation and since we were just around the corner, I suggested the pink café again.
This time around, I got something more substantial – the pan fried dory fillet (S$6.50) pictured above, I was rather pleased with my selection sans that big dollop of naked mayonnaise right out from the jar, but after scrapping that away to the side, I was good to go. Alas, the fillet had not been cooked thoroughly through around the thicker areas and I had to eat around it. I recall the same problem noted by another fellow blogger.
My friend, who was rather surprised at me picturing my food, gamely invited me to picture her food too, after I explained my love for blogging. Such a rarity so I proudly present the prawn pesto spaghetti (S$7) that she ordered (picture below). 4 large-sized prawns, deshelled with heads-on, fragrant and smelled like they had been doused with a fragrance of butter, topped a generous serving of spaghetti tossed with pesto. It was tasty but my friend noted it was also rather oily.
