Ma Maison ("MM") is this quaint restaurant located on the second floor, in a rather secluded corner of Bugis Junction mall, that serves Japanese-Western food.
Stepping into the restaurant, you probably feel like you are transported into a cafe in Europe, well, sort of, if you have not visited Europe ever. I had never been to MM before, nor had the desire to try, until J requested we meet up for lunch there specifically because she enjoys their lunch deals. MM offers a few set lunches and a special of the day. But none of them appealed to me so I got the a la carte grilled salmon instead ($16.50). I knew I was playing with fire by ordering salmon because I hate hate hate salmon that is dry, tough, overdone, chewy, all the bad things associated with overcooking salmon.
Sadly, my "grilled" salmon tasted just as described.
Even though I specifically informed the waitress to inform the kitchen not to overcook it, they still did.
It was not even grilled, more like pan-fried.
But for that amount I paid, I felt no need to kick up a fuss. I had good company for lunch to compensate. J & G got set lunch B which was steak that , in my honest opinion, looked like something out of the coffeeshop western food stall, albeit in nice big white plates and cleaner presentation. They raved about the deepfried potato that came as a side. It was also rather amusing to see them eat the steak with white rice, which they chose over french bread.
Before you write MM off, it really is worth visiting, even for the mediocre food, just because of its uniqueness and special settings and atmosphere.
